Steps for Enabling Active Directory with SMB Access

1. Verify DNS Resolution

• After integrating with Active Directory, ensure the device can resolve your AD domain through DNS.
• In most environments, this happens automatically via the DHCP-assigned DNS server.
• If your DHCP server does not provide the AD DNS server address:
• Go to Settings › Control Plane › Console › Network Settings
• Switch to Static IP
• Specify your AD Domain Controller IP in the DNS fields.

2. Enable AD Credentials for SMB Access

• Turn on Use Active Directory Credentials for SMB Access.
• All existing SMB sessions will disconnect immediately.
• Reconnect by entering credentials in one of the following formats:
• File Service Credentials (macOS/Windows AD-joined): .\[File Service Credential Username]
• Active Directory Account: [AD Domain Name]\[AD Username]

3. For Time Machine Backups

• After enabling this option, Time Machine logins must use an AD account.

4. Post-Configuration Activation

• The system may take 5–10 minutes to complete integration.
• Once finished, you can mount SMB using the device IP address, and auto-mount via Identity Endpoint should resume as expected.
